LDWF donated USD7800 to Barrackpore Avenue Women Cultural and Social Welfare Society, an organization working in the areas of women empowerment, child literacy and destitute elderly care for the past 12 years presently the organization is functioning in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal. It is running 2 orphanages, 2 old age homes, 14 slum schools, 4 vocational training centers, 2 legal counseling cells, charitable dispensaries and awareness camps.

Mr. Sankaracharya Mukhopadhyay, the Secretary of India Chapter of LWDF, handed over the check to Ms Camellia Johnson, the Head of the organization on behalf of Prabir Roy who made his recent visit to the beneficiary.

Kamarhati is one of the largest Industrial slums of West Bengal. With The lock out of the jute mills, life has become crippled. Women and Children are the innocent victims of illiteracy, unemployment for true of dominating husbands and deprivation towards the girl child.

Financial independence of these women can only be a means of redemption keeping this focus in mind the organization runs various income generation vocational training courses in rented Clubs which hampered the regularity of the classes.

The premises measuring about 260 sq ft in Kamarhati ward No 1 has been donated to the organization by living with Dignity Foundation Now York. This place would serve as a permanent venue for conducting the vocational training courses i.e. tailoring, beautician, and embroidery. It will serve as a place for women to make saleable items and be a venue for meeting, awareness generation programmers and a common point for redressal of grievances.

The community center donated by LWDF would serve as a platform for the growth and progress of many deprived women and will help to make a major difference in many Lives.
